Deployment of SQLce - DATASOURCE issue

My connection string is simply

Data Source ="|DataDirectory|\Data\Test.sdf"; Password ="test";

and it runs just fine...

I did a simple publish (simple public, no checking for updates or anything)

When the public completes I run the install app. I get the following odd error during install:

************** Exception Text **************
The path is not valid. Check the directory for the database. [ Path = C:\Documents and Settings\jlibertor\Local Settings\Apps\2.0\Data\DZN9D6Y7.8E9\N0WB27KY.XZB\test..tion_b3b178185207c0b7_0001.0000_ef52a43c912d4680\Data\Data\Test.sdf ]

So... any ideas? thansk so much in advance!

have you tried;

Data Source ="|DataDirectory|\Test.sdf"; Password ="test";

Otherwise you can possibly override by using: AppDomain.Setdata

|||

OK I figured it out. ther were 2 reasons...

And if thsi helps anyone I'll past a few things:

You can set the DataDirectory using this code:

AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetData("DataDirectory", System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory)

Place it in the application startup event.

Tip: you can't use the "My.StartupPath" in the event, and instead have to use "System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory"

ALSO

Don't forget that if you are getting this error you may not be publishing your .sdf file! (This my problem too) There are SEVERAL things you need to change in order to publich your file.

Tip: A good way to test if you are really publishign your .sdf file to check your publish package for it.

1-Set the properties of the .sdf file to "Content" and Output to "Copy Always"

2-In your Publish settings, look for yoru .sdf file. and force it to incluce.

Tip: After your user installs this once you don't want to publish it again. You'll want to change the above settings and supress this file (otherise you'll overwrite all of their hard-earned data )

deployment error

A report runs well in Visual Studio environment. Once it is deployed to the local report server, got an #Error indication without an actual message. The report has an embedded code with a database connection in it. Any idea what the problem is?

Thank you very much!

Could be a security issue regarding the database connection. If i understand you correctly, you connect to a database in custom code? If you have trusted connection in your custom code, maybe it is not the same user that makes the database call when the report runs in ReportServer as in Visual Studio and you get an exception?|||

Thanks for your response. I thought it could be a security issue too. So I enabled trusted connection and tried using specific uid and pwd too. Neither of them worked.

|||What dp you get if you do a try/catch and return the exception text to a textbox in the report?

What does this custom code do? What does it do with the report? The reason i am asking is that there might be some other way to solve it.|||

The custom code retrieves and outputs another set of data based on the dynamic id outputted from the first set of data.

I'll see what text message I'll get if I use try/catch and let you know.

Thanks for your help.

|||I found out it has something to do with the Code Access Security in .NET. I did some research and found this article was very helpful: http://www.devx.com/codemag/Article/33656/1954?pf=true. Once I followed it step by step, the problem was resolved. Just wanted to share with the community, in case if there is anybody encountered the same problem as I did.

Deploying vb.net english query application

Hi,
I'm attempting to distribute a vb.net english query application to a
client, however, when the client runs the application, it crahses when
it tries to create an instance of the "Mseq.Session" object.
As far as I can tell, the interop and the original dll are being
included in the setup correctly - are there any special settings (such
as com registration, system etc), or other files that I should be
including? Or are there any other prerequisits for the client's pc
before I can expect the software to run?
Cheers,
Tinium.
you are still going to need to install the EQ engine on the target
platform.. There's an awful lot of work done by the engine before the query
is shipped off the Server. EQ is a client function..

Deployed Report Fials with Multiple Pages

Using SQL RS 2000
My report runs fine in the designer but when deployed to the server it will
only display the first page. When move to page 2 or the last page it gives
the error:
"An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing. (rsUnexpectedError) "
Also, the report calls a subreport and if I remove the subreport it works
fine.
Any ideas?
ThanksI am having a very similar problem in RS 2005.
When I include a subreport, the main report will only display the first page
(correctly) but gives me the same error when navigating to another page.
This is occurring on one particular report only so far - a reasonably
complex report.
I have raised a technical support issue with Microsoft but they have not yet
been able to solve it.

Deploy Package Problem

I have a package that runs fine on my dev box. I deploy it to another server and run it by right-clicking and choosing run. I get an error saying it was unable to log in to the server.(Log in failed for user 'myuser') I am using sql authenication and the connection string says persist security info = true. So where is that password stored? Did I miss something when I deployed?

(I have other connections in the package that are windows auth and they work fine)

Data Source=myserver;User ID=myuser;Initial Catalog=Staging;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Persist Security Info=True;Auto Translate=False;

(I am just trying to get it to run on the other server, I know I may have other issues when I try to run it under sql agent)

Thx

Who is it package running as on the second server and what is the Package's protection level?|||

Thanks for the reply jaegd.

It is running under my id but I am using sql authentication to connect to a remote server and that is where my problem is not with the local server. The part of the package that connects locally under my id works fine, it's only when trying to connect to the remote sever that the password is not being used, I think it is trying to log in with a blank pwd.

Package protection is : EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey

|||

I had the same issue. Even on my own machine, no matter how many times I checked "[ ] Save my Password" it would continue to forget it and fail the connections (all 100+).

I finally have resorted to Windows Authentication which I've heard now from several sources is the preferred / encouraged method. Once I switched all my OLE DB connections over to it, it worked fine. Problem is, you have to have permission on the remote server.

I call BUG.

|||

Found this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=193221&SiteID=1

Which basically says to set your package protection level to DontSaveSensitive and use package configurations for storing passwords, server names, etc.

Simple works for me, only small concern is the passwords are not encrypted (maybe they can be somehow through SSIS) but I can live with it..

Deploy / process cube

Hi

When I deploy and process my cube in analysis services the server just runs and runs.

Several hours later it is still running - I am pretty sure that it hangs.

The cube is based on tables which max. have 2000 rows so it is not a large cube.

I have verified that it deploys to the correct server instance.

Can anyone give some advice?

Regards,

Dennis

Do you know what part of the processing it hands on (specific dimension, measure group, partition, etc.)? If the SSAS solution is based on a SQL Server database, can you run Profiler and monitor the queries that are being generated by SSAS and submitted to SQL Server?
