Deserialization failed: File or assembly name Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces not f

Hello,
I just installed Vault Source Control on my machine. I then opened a
Reporting Services project with rdl's in it. Every RDL that is currently in
source control opens with this error
"Deserialization failed: File or assembly name
Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces, or one of its dependencies, was not
found."
If I open another instance of the MSIDE without Vault (locally) and open a
different RDL it works fine. Is this an issue with the source control or
with the way it opens the file?
Any help will be appreciated. Need to get this solved.
PonnuI think it has to do with the way the add-in is written. Some add-ins turn
on shadow-copy, which plays havoc with the report designer as our assemblies
aren't located in the VS shared location. You might be able to copy the
report designer assemlies into the IDE directory. Not sure if you can
configure the add-in not to shadow copy.

Hey all - got a problem that seems like it would be simple (and probably is : )

I'm importing a csv file into a SQL 2005 table and would like to add 2 columns that exist in the table but not in the csv file. I need these 2 columns to contain the current month and year (columns are named CM and CY respectively). How do I go about adding this data to each row during the transformation? A derived column task? Script task? None of these seem to be able to do this for me.

Here's a portion of the transformation script I was using to accomplish this when we were using SQL 2000 DTS jobs:

It could be easily done by using the Derived Column task.

Just specify 2 new derived column names:

Derived Column return WRONG datatype.

Hi, friend,
l've 2 variables A & B from source database which i used to calculate C with the following formula, i.e.

C = 100 * A/B

In case of B = 0 (DIV BY ZERO), C should be equal to -9999.

l've set the datatype for A & B are INT, C is FLOAT at targetting database.

So l used to derived column to calculate C as,
B == 0 ? -9999 : 100 * A/B

After l run the package, l realize that all my C is INTEGER rather than FLOAT.....it seems that SQL server has evaluate the wrong datatype for me....anyway to overcome this?

This should not be a problem - you can map an integer in the data flow to a float at the destination without any issues.

Derived Column - DateTimeStamp From String (dd-mmm-yy)

I have come across something strange. I was wondering anyone else had the same problem or is it me?

I have a source file as shown below:
1,30-Feb-06,3,Test
2,20-Feb-06,5,Test1

Second column is defined as String(9) in the flat file source. Then I have a Derived Column between source and Trash destination. The Derived Column adds a new column to the datd flow. The expression is as shown below :
(DT_DBTIMESTAMP)(SUBSTRING(Col2,1,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING(Col2,4,3) + "/" + SUBSTRING(Col2,8,2))

The data is loading into the database successfully, where I was expecting it to fail. I placed a data viewer and saw the following result set.

Source (Col2) Derived Col
-
30-Feb-06 06/02/1930 00:00:00 - WRONG result set
20-Feb-06 20/02/2006 00:00:00 - RIGHT result set

Can anyone repeat this problem or am I missing something? I have got SP1 and Hotfix installed.

This one feels like an old friend - albeit an irritating old friend.

Briefly, this is a result of routines in oleaut. Really, the oleaut library is trying to be friendly and to cast your string to a valid date. Knowing that there are different formats out there such as yy-mm-dd and dd-mm-yy it "assumes" that you have a valid date in one of these formats and therefore - to hugely oversimplify - finds the format that enables it to perform a cast to a valid date.

Note that this behaviour has been around for a long time when using a non-US local (there are developers who believe it led to some slight misalignment of the pyramids) and many applications actually rely on the behaviour, so it is difficult to change after a long time.

I would suggest that if you are likely to have invalid dates of this particular nature, that you validate them using some code before applying the cast or conversion. Not a great solution, but effective.

Deployment Server Properties

I am just starting into using the SQL 2005 tools and was trying to run my first model. I set up the Data sources and Data Source Views and Created a decision tree mining structure.

The properties for the deployment have the server as (local) and the database name that is valid. I am running SQLServer Express on my local PC and have verified that it is up and running.

When I try and do a Build and deploy, I get the following error:

"The project could not be deployed to the '(local)' server because of the following connection problems: A connection cannot be made. Enssure the server is running...."

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I can deploy if I change the deployment to look at the server the data is on (a remote SQL 2005 server), but I would rather have it on my local machine. Maybe that is not a good idea. If not, please tell me.

Your mining model and associated objects need to be deployed to an Analysis Services 2005 instance, not to the relational database server. Since SQL Server 2005 Express does not include Analysis Services, you'll need to deploy to another server that's running Standard Edition or above and has a running instance of Analysis Services.|||

Deployment of SQLce - DATASOURCE issue

My connection string is simply

Data Source ="|DataDirectory|\Data\Test.sdf"; Password ="test";

and it runs just fine...

I did a simple publish (simple public, no checking for updates or anything)

When the public completes I run the install app. I get the following odd error during install:

Otherwise you can possibly override by using: AppDomain.Setdata

And if thsi helps anyone I'll past a few things:

You can set the DataDirectory using this code:

AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetData("DataDirectory", System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory)

Place it in the application startup event.

Tip: you can't use the "My.StartupPath" in the event, and instead have to use "System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory"

ALSO

Don't forget that if you are getting this error you may not be publishing your .sdf file! (This my problem too) There are SEVERAL things you need to change in order to publich your file.

Tip: A good way to test if you are really publishign your .sdf file to check your publish package for it.

1-Set the properties of the .sdf file to "Content" and Output to "Copy Always"

2-In your Publish settings, look for yoru .sdf file. and force it to incluce.

Tip: After your user installs this once you don't want to publish it again. You'll want to change the above settings and supress this file (otherise you'll overwrite all of their hard-earned data )

Deployment Copy/Paste Problems

We maintain our CAB (meta-data only) in a source control system. The
process for deployment is simply to restore the CAB on the production
server and then copy/paste it to the production database name where it
will have it's final resting place.
By doing this we allow for scalability and robust management since the
same CAB can be deployed to many places. (In some places we process
different sets of cubes than in other places but the same meta-data
can be re-used.)
The problem we are finding is that one of our production servers is a
64 bit box that is (necessarily) remotely managed from a 32 bit
instance of Analysis Manager. When copy/pasting the database remotely
it takes a very, very long time to complete. Keep in mind that only
meta-data is being copied. When copy/paste is happening, it looks
like DSO code is executing to rebuild an entire database from scratch.
Does anybody have a faster method of copy/pasting an Analysis Services
database into place for deployment purposes?

Deploying Reports

Hi All,
I am having a strange problem. I have created a shared data source and
multiple datasets for my reports. The multiple datasets are created to get
data for the different parameters in the report. The report works fine in
Visual Studio. But I don't see the data source listed and when I try to
deploy the report and run it on my webserver. I get the following error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'CWPresales'.
(rsErrorOpeningConnection)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the
local server machine, or enable remote errors
Can anyone help me with this. I am confused on why I cannot see the
datasource listed in the solution explorer.

ShriI am not sure what you mean by solution explorer? I use Report Manager for
this sort of thing. When you deploy the data sources get created BUT they
get created without credentials. You need to use Report Manager to view the
properties of the data source and set the credentials.
Data sources in RS2005 can either be in the same folder as your reports or
in a special folder called Data Sources. Just in case they are hidden in
List View then click on the Show Details link in Report Manager.

Deploying report with RS utility with different datasource folder

How does one specify a different data source folder path when deploying a
report to a report server (2005) using RS scripting? I started with the
PublishSampleReport.rss script sample from microsoft and need to publish a
report (i.e. rs.CreateReport... ) to the report server that references the
shared data source in a different folder than the default "/Data Sources"
(i.e. /ApplicationName/ReleaseName/Data Sources). Any ideas? You can
change in Visual Studio 2005 the TargetDataSourceFolder in the project
properties for deployment, but how do you do it in script?I think something like this should do the trick (it's worked for me):

It seems that the datasources have not been set up correctly, you could open
the installed package in BI studio and check the connections.

It seems that the datasources have not been set up correctly, you could open
the installed package in BI studio and check the connections.

Deploy to Production Server

Hi guys

I have some SSRS reports, shared data sources, data source views and a data model that I need to deploy into production. But I work in a very large firm and we cannot use the Visual Studio interface - I have to provide another team with the files and instructions for installation. Has anyone done this before or have any ideas?

If you cant use VS.NET you can send them the rdls and ask them to navigate to the Report Maanger and upload the rdls into the directory, if it does not already exist, they will have to create the directory which they can do through the report manager interface also

I have modified a shared data source and when I deployed it, the data source
on the Report Manager page did not change. I then deleted the data source
from the Report Manager and redeployed the data source. Then the reports
errored with a data source not found error, so I redeployed the entire
project, but now, even thought the shared data source is in it's original
location all of my reports (50) say that The shared data source reference is
no longer valid. I have redeployed my project again with the same results.

>|||First, so you can understand what happened along the way. When you deploy
the default is that the shared datasource does not overwrite. The reason is
so you can have a shared data source when developing that points to a
development database and then when deployed the datasource points to
production. So deleting and deploying again works (you can also force the
deploy to overwrite but I have never done that). Usually when re-deploying a
datasource the issue that comes up are the credentials. In report manager
open up the data source and make sure the credentials are correct.

Deploy project - error

When i deployed my data source and reports, i see in my output screen
warning message
'Warning : Cannot deploy data source ReportsDS to the server because it
already exists and OverwriteDataSources is not specified.'
What is this mean?In VS, right click on the Project name in the Solution explorer window to
see the properties, change OverwriteDataSources from false to true (if you
want to deploy a revised data source)

Deploy Problem

I created a package, created an XML Config file, created a deployment utility and then deployed to server.

Changed Connection Managers Data Source and Initial catalog properites during deplyment. Config file in the deployment folder have the right data source and initial catalog properties value.

But when i run the package..I see wrong connection string(still showing dev server name) even though I changed during these properties during deployement and shows it right in configuration file in deployment folder.

From where the package is reading connection properties....very confusing

I will appreciate any help!!!

Here's the deal. I believe you *need* to specify a path. Here's why. When I opened up and saved a new XML configuration file without a full path, my config file got stored in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE.

Then I deployed the package, and opened the package from the deployment folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Phil Brammer\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\Test01\Test01\bin\Deployment), and the values were picked up from the IDE folder, not the deployment folder.

Check into that and use absolute paths, where possible.|||I can confirm Phil's answer, we ran into a similar problem recently. To use XML config files without the full path, you have to make sure the current working directory is the same as the directory to package is located in. If you are running DTEXEC directly, you could use a batch file to change the directory (CD) before calling DTEXEC. If you are running it from SQL Agent, the only work-around we found was to have Agent call a batch file to run DTEXEC instead of running it directly.|||

I specified path while creating XML config file...but it still does not work after deployment.I am deploying the package in File System.

But here is what i noticed. When I open package from deployment folder by clicking C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Packages\Some_FolderName\Package_Name.dtsx it shows right connection properties.

But I try to run the package from IS by right clicking the package->Connection Manager it shows wrong server name.

You can deploy both reports and the data sources used by

uploading them in Report Manager. But I can't find a way
to deploy data sources (not creating new data sources)
using Report Manager.
Ideally, when the developers have finished designing and
testing reports, I'd like to have them sending me both rdl
files and rds files so that I can deploy them into
production.

them by uploading them using report manager.

data source. Are you sure that'll work?
