Deserialization failed: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Drawing.RptStyle

I have VS2003 and VS2005 installed as well as SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 Tools. I have RS2000 and RS2005 installed. RS2000 works fine in VS2003. When using VS2005 and opening a Microsoft sample project for 2005, I get the error listed in the subject line.

When trying to create a new project and connecting to an Oracle database or a SQL Server 2005 database, I get the following error: "A connection cannot be made to the database. Set and check the connection string." The connection works fine when the test button is clicked, but fails when continuing in the wizard.

Any suggestions. We are trying to migrate from RS2000 to RS2005 and nothing in 2005 works.

We're gettiing the same error on 8 machines at our company. We opened a ticket with MS and they closed it tell us to reinstall XP on the PCs. None have agreed to let us do this without knowing if it will work. If anyone has a clue why this is happening we'd really like to know.|||

Try the cure-all for every software problem. Reformat and reinstall.

deployment of applications

Hi,

I have developed several PPC apps in VS2003, which i have deployed to other PPCs using sqlce.wce4.armv4.CAB for the database runtime.

Now I developed a new app. version in Visual Studio 2005, using the free SQL server express database that came with it.

I can create a .cab file for the app using a setup project, but it eludes me what to install on the PPC of the customer, database wise.

Is there some kind of installable runtime for sql server express ?

(Or what is it called today ?)

thx in advance,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

SQL Express edition is only available for desktop and server versions of Windows, not for Windows Mobile. You must use SQL CE version 3.1 cab files, ie: sqlce30.ppc.wce4.armv4.CAB and sqlce30.repl.ppc.wce4.armv4.CAB (for Windows Mobile 2003 devices)

Deploying reports from VS2003 to RS2005

I was led to believe that you could deploy reports created in VS2003 to
RS2005. I have upgraded our test system to RS2005, but when I try to deploy
a report that has been created in VS2003 (RS2000), I get the following error:
The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not
valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is 'C.0.8.40'. The expected
version is 'C.0.6.54'. To continue, update the version of the report server
database and verify access rights.
Was I wrong in assuming that it was backwards compatible? I realize I can't
create a report in VS2005 and deploy it to an RS2000 instance, but I thought
going the other way was acceptable?Hi dachrist,
Welcome to use MSDN Managed Newsgroup Support.
You can deploy the reports created in VS 2003 to a Reporting Services 2005
server.
The root cause of the error message you recieved is the report server
database is not the same version as the report server engine. This error
can occur if you move components or modify your configuration (for example,
moving a report server into a Web farm, and the existing report servers in
the Web farm are a different version).
please try to use the rsconfig utility to re-config the report server
database.
rsconfig -c -s servername -d reportserver -a SQL -u sa -p password
Thank you for your patient.
Sincerely,
Wei Lu
