Deserialization failed: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Drawing.RptStyle

I have VS2003 and VS2005 installed as well as SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 Tools. I have RS2000 and RS2005 installed. RS2000 works fine in VS2003. When using VS2005 and opening a Microsoft sample project for 2005, I get the error listed in the subject line.

When trying to create a new project and connecting to an Oracle database or a SQL Server 2005 database, I get the following error: "A connection cannot be made to the database. Set and check the connection string." The connection works fine when the test button is clicked, but fails when continuing in the wizard.

Any suggestions. We are trying to migrate from RS2000 to RS2005 and nothing in 2005 works.

We're gettiing the same error on 8 machines at our company. We opened a ticket with MS and they closed it tell us to reinstall XP on the PCs. None have agreed to let us do this without knowing if it will work. If anyone has a clue why this is happening we'd really like to know.|||

Try the cure-all for every software problem. Reformat and reinstall.

Hello,
I just installed Vault Source Control on my machine. I then opened a
Reporting Services project with rdl's in it. Every RDL that is currently in
source control opens with this error
"Deserialization failed: File or assembly name
Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces, or one of its dependencies, was not
found."
If I open another instance of the MSIDE without Vault (locally) and open a
different RDL it works fine. Is this an issue with the source control or
with the way it opens the file?
Any help will be appreciated. Need to get this solved.
PonnuI think it has to do with the way the add-in is written. Some add-ins turn
on shadow-copy, which plays havoc with the report designer as our assemblies
aren't located in the VS shared location. You might be able to copy the
report designer assemlies into the IDE directory. Not sure if you can
configure the add-in not to shadow copy.

Deregistering the SPN after installing SP1

I'm running the evaluation software on a development machine running XP and everything was fine until I installed SP1. Now I can't get services to run, and the error log displays:

"The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x2098. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors."

Looking through previous questions, I see similar issues where the SPN needs to be deregistered, but my problem looks different; I can't even load services on local only. I'm downloading the SP2 from November, but thought I'd see if anyone else is/has had similar issues.

This is what Microsoft says about SP1:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/d/1/bd1e0745-0e65-43a5-ac6a-f6173f58d80e/ReadmeSQL2005SP1.htm#_1463_uninstalling_sql_server_2005_sp1_fzpy

So unfortunately you can't remove SP1, you have to reinstall.

|||

Mm... I was hoping someone had seen the issue and had a less drastic fix, but if that's the only way, I guess it'll have to do. Just wish I could get the local up and running so I could script out my tables and sp's, etc.

Thanks just the same

deployment question

I am wondering about some capacity that, I have heard, might be installed in
SqlServer 2005.
I am writting an end user application that I want to have low hardware
requirement (apart from running .NET).
I would like to use a SqlServer database for data repository, but I don't
want a server, it would be a file based data stored, only for the
application and would (absolutely) not require a previous server software to
be installed.
Something like I could do with SqlLite, except SqlServer have plenty of nice
graphical tools.
Is it possible to do something like that with SqlServer? how?
What are the licensing consideration?SQL Server 2000 MSDE:

"First, SQL Server 2000 Desktop Edition is being retired. In its place, we
get SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Express Edition will still be free,

a graphical management tool, as well as some other goodies like a report
wizard and controls, plus support for new technologies including SQL Service
Broker and the Common Language Runtime. All in all, Express Edition should
significantly raise the bar for the use of SQL Server is low-cost

deployment not working

I have a freshly installed reporting server/sql server and I have an older
visual studio reporting project.
Now I wanted to change the deployment url to the new server, but whenever I
try to deploy I get the message: "The permissions granted to user 'user' are
insufficient for performing this operation."
What permissions and where do I need to change to get this right?Give the user 'user' the Content Manager role on the folder to which you
want to deploy.

HI,

I am using .NET 2003 on my pc. I installed reporting services 2000 on my pc as well.

I have a remote computer (server) with sql 2000.

I created a report using the reporting services, and now I want to deploy it to the report server.

When I do it I get: " The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing"

I dont know how to configure reporting services, I know how to create reports, so i hope you can help me step by step.

For a strat I wish you can help me configure it to work om my pc (I installed sql 2000 on my pc as well)

Thanks,

Target Folder: ReportServer

TargetServerURL:http://127.0.0.1/ReportServer

Double check the datasource you are using. Go into the properties of the datasource, click edit, then 'Test Connection'. Probably a worth a check.

Deploying reports to SSRS 2005 and\or SSRS 2000

We have SQL 2000 & SQL 2005 instances, both with Reporting Services installed. The SQL 2000 instances will be around for a while longer. We would like to upgrade our Visual Studio from 2003 to 2005. Can we deploy reports to either\both of the 2000 or 2005 Report Servers from VS 2005?Since VS 2005 only deals with reports that are in the 2005 RDL format, it can only deploy reports to RS 2005.

RS 2005 supports both 2000 and 2005-era RDL definitions, so you can use VS 2003 or 2005 to deploy to RS 2005.

-Chris|||I thought that RDL was an independent format version and didn't know that it changed with the new VS 2005 or RS 2005.
Thanks.|||RDL is a schema that is currently available in two versions:
* RS 2000 with the RDL schema namespace 2003/10
http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2003/10/reportdefinition
* RS 2005 with the RDL schema namespace 2005/01
http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2005/01/reportdefinition

There are a few additions / changes in RS 2005 (such as fixed headers, new CustomReportItem, CustomProperties) which required a new Xml schema namespace.

You can download more technical information about RDL here: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/rdlspec.mspx

Deploying Reporting Servoces Reports to the Production Server

Hi,
I am new to Reporting Services. I have installed RS and SQL Server200 on my dev machine. I have created a few .rdl files and deployed them. The TargetServerURL property of my project is set tohttp://localhost/ReportServer. and TargetFolder is "ScoreCardReports".
I have used the reports in my Asp.net app by the RS Webservice (Web Reference URL is :http://localhost/ReportServer/ReportService.asmx.). I used the Render mehtod the get the images from the reports.
Now I will deploy my Asp.net app by creating the msi installer created by the setup & deployment project.
But how to package the .rdl and .rds files so that the app works on the production server ? That will be a windows2003 server.
Please help.The way we deploy to prod is to have the change control person log ontothe prod reporting services, and use the "upload file" option,selecting the .rdl file to import.
|||

I have solved the problem by executing the rs.exe in a bat file. I have created the .rss file containing all the commands to create the reports folder and deploying the reports to the target server. The path of the file has been passed as a parameter to the RS command.

The person to setup the whole application should now only run the .bat file and all the reports will be deployed to the server at one click.

|||

Hi Boss Th Question what u asked is little bit complex.

What u need to generate an .rss file by writing code in VB.Net

use this .rss file with a small command & create a batch file

So whenever u run that batch on a particular server the Reports what u have developed will be deployted on tto the Particular Production Server

Deploying Reporting Services

I've installed reporting services and reporting services sp2 on my local computer and I have admin rights on this computer.

But when I am trying to deploy reports in the report server, It is asking for login and password. If I give my machine login and password, it is not taking.

I've been trying to fix it for past few days but I couldn't.

Deploy SSIS package to production which has a connection to oracle databse

Hi There,

In SSIS package development environment, I was able to connect to an oracle database and pull data into my sql server database. I installed the client tools for oracle and I put an entry into the tnsnames.ora and I was able to connect.

But in production environment, if I deploy the package on sql server, I was wondering if I had to do the same job of downloading the oracle client tools onto my production machine --which creates a tnsnames.ora file to it default location and then edit it with tthe tns entry-- or is there a better way to do this--avoiding the download?

Can somebody plzz help me ?

Thanks.

You need to install the Oracle Client (9i) or (10) on the actual SQL Server box.

This is for the network libraries. There is a special build of the client for Windows 2003 Server if you go to Oracles site and have a look around

cheers Dave

|||

You do need to repeat the same steps like you've done in your development environment: install Oracle client and adjust tnsnames.ora file.

There are 2 more options:

1) There is another "lighter" option - Oracle Instant Client:

http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient//index.html

2) The Oracle Data Provider for .NET (ODP.NET) . It has Oracle client bundled with it.

http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/windows/odpnet/index.html

Regards,
Yitzhak

|||

Hi Yitzhak,

If I intstall the lighter option, where do I adjust the tnsnames.ora file? I don't find the file after installation. Do I need to manually create it and put it in a specific location? Can you please reply back?

Thanks.

Sam.

|||

Also, which of the instant client packages should I download? There are 5 downloads for install client for 64bit.

Thanks.

Sam.

|||

Oracle has Instant Client FAQ page:

http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/ic-faq.html#A5028

How do I ensure that my "tnsnames.ora" file is being used in Instant Client?
Always set the TNS_ADMIN environment variable or registry setting to the full path of the tnsnames.ora file. This practice will ensure that you are using the appropriate tnsnames.ora for your application when running with Instant Client.

Regards,
Yitzhak

|||

Because you are using MS SQL Server 2005 SSIS on Windows OS, just 2 options are applicable for you:

Windows Itanium 64-bit 10.2.0.2|||

HiYitzhak,

Can you please bare with me? I downloaded the windows x86 64 bit install client and this is what I did.

I unzipped the folder contents to c:install\instantclient

I created a tnsnames.ora file with the tns entry under 'C:\'.

I added the full path 'c:install\instantclient\' to the path environment variable

I also added a tns_admin environment variable giving it a value 'C:\tnsnames.ora'.

Now I test executing the package using dtexec and I still can't connect to the oracle database. It still gives me an error 'Client and networking components not installed. Am I missing smth?

Can you please help me?

Thanks.

|||

There is a command line tnsping.exe Oracle utility to check both client installation and tnsnames.ora settings.

You can try to launch it at the command prompt:

c:\>tnsping oracle-instance-name

Deploy Asks for Username and Password - Can't Deploy

Today I installed SP2 on my client and rebooted.
Since then, when I try to deploy from Visual Studio, I get a box that pops
up that asks for a username and password. I tried entering everything under
the sun but I can't get past it.
The user I am logged in as is part of the Administrators group on the RS
server. Beyond that, none of the server config has changed.
What is going on here? I can't deploy!
Thanks,
HunterI experience this problem too. I even created a new user name under the
security properties tab, for my user account, "Administrator"

"create a DWORD entry called DisableLoopbackCheck to
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa. Set this key to a value of 1"
I hope, this helps.

password prompt that accepts no credentials.
Any other ideas out there?
