In Visual Studio, select the 'Help' tab and 'About Microsoft Visual
Studio' to get the version number, service pack, etc. Don't quote me
on this, but I believe that the latest version is 9.0.3042.

Deserialization failed

I am installing SSRS for the first time. I tried to create a simple report and I am getting the following error:

Deserialization failed: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.ReportDesigner.Drawing.RptStyleConstValue' threw an exception. Line 2, position 2.

Does anyone know how to fix this error?

How do we deploy SSRS Reports to various server. One option which we

are using currently is deploying from the report project. We want to

Deployment issue SSRS 2000 reports on Production server

Hi All,
I am facing the issue while deploying Reporting Services 2000 Reports in
Production environment (Windows NT Server and SQL Server 2000) in our
application.
Background: I developed few reports using SQL Server Reporting Services 2000
and are able to deploy in Development environment and those reports are
working fine without any issues.
When we are trying to deploy the same in our Production environment, then we
are facing some issue during the deployment time and not able to deploy those
reports into it. We are followed 3 ways to deploy the same as mentioned below:
Method 1: From Application or report manager screen
(http://servername/reports or http://localhost/reports ) we are trying to
deploy / uploads all the reports one by one, then we are getting the error at
the time of upload as â'The underlying connection was closed: Could not
establish trust relationship with remote server.â'
Method 2: From Reports Designer window, we set build mode as â'Productionâ'
and set all the project environments as Production environment and made a
build and then made deploy. After that we are getting an error as "A
Connection could not be made to the report server
http://servername/reportserver". Later we manually copying all the reports
into Production environment and trying to open the reports, then we are not
able to open / call those reports from our application. Here we could not
able to connect or do not know what to do after copying of the reports into
physical environment of the application.
Method 3: We search thru google and few forums, and then we got to know that
we can deploy reports from the script also. So we tried to do the same as per
their instructions, then we got the error in command prompt as below:
E:\New Folder\Files\Dev2.0\ProfessionalServices\REPORTS>rs -i ps_reports.rss

nsbThe best way to work this out is from the development environment. You can
deploy a single report by doing a right mouse click on the report and
deploy. What error if any are you getting? Do you have the rights to
publish? One easy thing to try in that regard is to add your user to the
local adminstrators group on the server.
I am betting that you are not part of the administrators group and you were
on the development server. You need to have someone who is in that group to
add you to the appropriate roll in RS.

Deploying to Report Manager error

I have created a report using SSRS 2005. It uses a stored procedure. It executes beautifully when I'm in reporting services. But, when I deploy it to Report Manager, this is the error I am getting.

An error has occurred during report processing.
Query execution failed for data set 'DataSource1'.
An MDX Statement was expected. An MDX expression was specified.

I have 3 parameters in this report. Start Date, End Date & Region. Region is a drop down that contains 2 options. This is a string field being passed into the procedure. Start and end dates are just basic date fields.

I am not using a cube to get my data.

I have deployed to the Report Manager before and have been successful.

With a name like DataSource1 I'm assuming this is a test environment. It's probable that in a previous test a shared data source (connecting to MSAS) with the same name was deployed to the server.

In you report project, make sure that in the deployment properties you have the "Overwrite Data Sources" option set to true. I suspect that when you deploy, only the report is being uploaded and not the new data source that it's using

Deploying the whole lot

I am adding a reporting suite to our application based upon SSRS 2005 and I am looking for a comprehensive example of how I go about deploying this.

Essentially I want to automate the entire process:

Create the DB, Create the Virtual Dirs, add my reports etc.

I have looked at the documentation and it is limited to say the least. I went down the route of attempting to script the whole thing and after 3 days of it I was still stuck on a few problems so I was hoping that someone knows of an example of how to go through all of these processes.

An example of the problems I ran into is that the "CreateVirtualDir" method on the reporting services WMI objects simply didn't work. It didn't return an error but it didn't create the Dir either!

The documentation around this method and most others is ambiguous and contains no examples.

I then went down the route of using IIS WMI to create the dirs which worked but then I was unable to update the Reporting Services configuration to pick this up without resorting to changing the config files directly - and even when I did this they didn't always seem to be picked up.

So at present instead of giving our guys in deployment a 1 click install they have a 9 page document explaining the install and set up of Reporting services from start to finish.

Any help or more thorough documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Deploying SSRS 2005 Reports Using .NET 1.1 Application

Hi,
We have a bunch of reports for SQL Server Reporting Services 2005, and we need to deploy them programmatically. However, our installation application is written using .NET 1.1.

Does anyone know of any problems/issues with using a .NET 1.1 application to deploy SSRS 2005 reports?

We're just needing to know if we should upgrade our installation application from .NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0.

Supposedly you are using the RS 2000 SOAP endpoint in your .NET 1.1 application to deploy reports.

This SOAP endpoint is still supported in RS 2005, so your existing application should work fine.

When I go to IIS and browse, it won't let me see the page, it reads "This
page cannot be displayed". The internet has connectivity because I can get
on my email and other sites.
When I try to deploy the report, I am having issues as well with
connectivity. I get an error that reads "A connection could not be made to
the report server http://localhost/ReportServer"
I went to services on the server and verified that SSRS was running and so
was IIS.
Any thoughts?Check the access (security) rights on the ReportServer.

Use the "New Role Assignment" button to add users or groups. I suggest you
use an Active Directory (or local) group as it will be easier to manage.

Have you check IIS logs ? Do you see connection attempts ? What is the HTTP
status code ?

Deploying SSAS 2005 project in Server

I have a doubt like, will it effect performance because SSIS have incremental load, SSAS also having incremental load then what will happen while accessing the reports while incremental process is going on

We installed SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and SharePoint Portal Server 2007 on one machine.

The system performs good with 4 GB of internal memory.

Later on the best installation is to have a farm with multiple servers, but in the beginning you can use just one.

Incremental load is helpful indeed. But in general the following might turn into bottleneck if you do not have:

1) Hardware configuration (RAM, IO Controllers) required for the server to run at expected speed.

2) Network bandwidth for the Data transfer (Incase of SSIS and SSRS).

3) Try a quick test using task manager determine the following during peak time as well as off-peak time:

a) Memory consumed by Sql Server Manament Studio with all services (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS) enabled.

b) Time taken to load the report, complete the execution of SSIS Packages, or Processing a Cube or SSAS database.

Deploying reports to SSRS 2005 and\or SSRS 2000

We have SQL 2000 & SQL 2005 instances, both with Reporting Services installed. The SQL 2000 instances will be around for a while longer. We would like to upgrade our Visual Studio from 2003 to 2005. Can we deploy reports to either\both of the 2000 or 2005 Report Servers from VS 2005?Since VS 2005 only deals with reports that are in the 2005 RDL format, it can only deploy reports to RS 2005.

RS 2005 supports both 2000 and 2005-era RDL definitions, so you can use VS 2003 or 2005 to deploy to RS 2005.

* RS 2000 with the RDL schema namespace 2003/10

* RS 2005 with the RDL schema namespace 2005/01
http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2005/01/reportdefinition

There are a few additions / changes in RS 2005 (such as fixed headers, new CustomReportItem, CustomProperties) which required a new Xml schema namespace.

Deploying reports on Production server

hello experts,

i need help with deployment of reports (SSRS 2005). we need to deploy many reports (more then 100) on the production everytime we make changes in them.

"the problem is we cannot install visual studio on the server to open the project and use the deploy option from it" i tried using the script - PublishSampleReports.rss

but everytime i run i need to go and manully configure the report to map the shared datasource to it. any way to pass the information in the script itself, or is there any smart way to deploy on production.

Hello Chandresh,

You can deploy to your production server from your local machine, or wherever you develop the reports.

Open your report project and go to Properties from the Project menu. From here, you can change your TargetServerURL to be your production server, then when you deploy the reports, they will go there.

Deploying problem with reports

Hi,

I have two aquestions.

1. How do I select data ovewrite option in SSRS? When I deploy a report i got a following error message.

Warning : Cannot deploy data source mydatasource to the server because it already exists and OverwriteDataSources is not specified.

2. When I try to snapshot a report on report manager, I get a error message.

"Credentials used to run this report are not stored

Then I went to Management Studio and selected the data source and open the report data source property box. I gave a login name and a password under credential stored securely on the server. Can this login name and password be random ones or do they come from smwhere else? Even After I did this still i get the error.

Click project -> Properties in your report project. There is an option for OverwriteDataSources. Personally, I use a shared datasource though. Is your datasource shared?

OK thanks In this case no..my data source is not shared........Is there any disadvantage if i select Overwrite option?

what if the data source is shared? still can I used this option?

I'm supposed to create few reports and execute in daily and monthly basis. So which option should I use?

|||If you use a shared datasource then you don't need the overwrite option. If the data source is not shared and you are constantly redeploying it then you want to use the overwrite option.|||OK I understood..Thanks lot

Deploy to Production Server

Hi guys

I have some SSRS reports, shared data sources, data source views and a data model that I need to deploy into production. But I work in a very large firm and we cannot use the Visual Studio interface - I have to provide another team with the files and instructions for installation. Has anyone done this before or have any ideas?

If you cant use VS.NET you can send them the rdls and ask them to navigate to the Report Maanger and upload the rdls into the directory, if it does not already exist, they will have to create the directory which they can do through the report manager interface also
