a) how do I know which version of SSRS designer I have? how do I know
which version is current?
b) anyone know what this means:

In Visual Studio, select the 'Help' tab and 'About Microsoft Visual
Studio' to get the version number, service pack, etc. Don't quote me
on this, but I believe that the latest version is 9.0.3042.

I've got 8.0.0.760 on the visual studio side.. or something around 700
I assume that this is not SP2 for SSRS 2000?

You should be using either SP3 or SP3a, according to your version.
